Castell Trinity Methodist Lutheran 1852 Church Pioneer Cache — Llano County

Lost Treasure TX • Llano County County
Description
Castell legend of pioneer specie near the 1852 Methodist and Lutheran churches — the first church services in the region, conducted by Rev. Charles A. Grote.
Historical Notes
The site near Castell held the first church services in the region, conducted by Rev. Charles A. Grote in 1852. Local Methodist and Lutheran congregations date their founding from that year, and Castell has remained a religious center in Llano County. Frontier-church folklore places emergency specie in or near early meetinghouses where ranch families stored valuables during Comanche frontier years. The post office moved to the south bank in 1872, centering the community where it stands today. Coordinates approximate the Castell church district on the south bank of the Llano River at Farm roads 2768 and 152.
