Weekday school in the 1856 German Methodist church building at Castell; Dietrich J. G. Rode's congregation housed Llano County's earliest documented school-church.
Historical Notes
A German Methodist church was established in Castell in 1856 by Dietrich J. G. Rode; during weekdays the building served as a school, per the Handbook of Texas Llano County entry. Castell is the oldest surviving settlement in the county. Related entries document Bettina and other failed Adelsverein colonies on the upper Llano.
