Castell Methodist Church — Llano County

Historic Church TX • Llano County County
Description
Methodist congregation dating from Rev. Charles A. Grote's 1852 services at Castell — the oldest surviving settlement in Llano County.
Historical Notes
Castell held the first church services in the region in 1852, conducted by Rev. Charles A. Grote. The local Methodist and Lutheran churches trace founding traditions to that year. Castell was established in 1847 by German Adelsverein settlers led by Count Emil von Kriewitz. It is the only Adelsverein river settlement in Llano County that survived, while Bettina, Leiningen, and Schoenburg did not.
