Castell Lutheran Church — Llano County

Historic Church TX • Llano County County
Description
Lutheran parish at Castell with roots in the 1852 frontier services; continuous German-settler worship on the upper Llano River.
Historical Notes
Castell has remained a center of religious activity since Rev. Charles A. Grote preached there in 1852. Lutheran and Methodist congregations both date their founding from that pioneer era. German Methodists under Dietrich J. G. Rode established a church in Castell in 1856 that doubled as a weekday school — documented in the Handbook of Texas Llano County entry.
