Historical Notes
Texas Parks & Wildlife leases Castell Crossing on FM 2768 near Castell (Lat/Long 30.704516, -98.958782). The site offers approximately 950 feet of Llano River frontage for bank fishing and launching non-motorized boats. This segment lies on the upper Llano approximately 6.6 river miles downstream of Mason–Llano Road and 4.7 miles upstream of Schneider Slab (Seventh Heaven access). Guadalupe and largemouth bass dominate angling; clear water favors sight-feeding species. Recreational prospectors occasionally pan fine placer gold from gravel bars in this upper-river reach within the Llano Uplift. Access is open 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset; no overnight camping. Pack out all trash. Related entry "Llano — Gold Panning & Treasure Fest" and Kingsland-area pins document downstream panning culture on the same river system.
