Castell Crossing Llano River Outlaw Cache — Llano County

Lost Treasure TX • Llano County County
Description
Castell Crossing legend of outlaw loot along the Llano River ford — the FM 2768 crossing where wagon roads linked Mason, Castell, and the Fredericksburg country.
Historical Notes
Castell Crossing on Farm Road 2768 offers public leased fishing access on the north bank of the Llano River near Castell. The site lies approximately 6.6 river miles downstream of Mason–Llano Road and 4.7 miles upstream of Schneider Slab on the upper Llano. River-crossing outlaw lore places bandit caches in limestone bluffs and cedar breaks along historic fords between Mason and Fredericksburg. Post–Civil War cattle trails and stage routes used the Llano valley before railroads reached Llano in 1892. Coordinates mark Castell Crossing on FM 2768 at the Llano River in western Llano County. Respect TPWD leased-access rules and private shoreline.
