Casa Blanca Sheep Rancher Stolen Money — Jim Wells County

Lost Treasure TX • Jim Wells County County
Description
Casa Blanca legend of money stolen from a sheep rancher and buried near the historic White House community on the Jim Wells County ranch corridor northeast of Alice.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Jim Wells County page lists a cache of money stolen from a sheep rancher said to be buried near Casa Blanca. Jim Wells County grew from the nineteenth-century sheep boom on the South Texas Plains before cotton and oil reshaped the economy. Walter W. Meek and other Anglo ranchers helped make neighboring Duval County the sheep capital of Texas; Jim Wells ranches shipped wool and livestock through Alice after the rail junction moved from defunct Collins. Rustler-and-rancher payroll caches are standard entries in regional treasure compilations. Coordinates mark the Casa Blanca–Sandia area in northeastern Jim Wells County.
