Description
Branford legend of Captain Kidd burying treasure among the Thimble Islands in Long Island Sound — a granite-archipelago cache off the New Haven County shore.
Historical Notes
The Thimble Islands are a cluster of small islands off Stony Creek in Branford on Long Island Sound. Historian Michael Dooling traces Kidd treasure legends from Boston through the Thimbles, Norwalk Islands, and Charles Island. The archipelago's pirate lore complements Charles Island traditions along the same Sound coastline.
