Captain Kidd Block Island Treasure

Lost Treasure RI • Washington County County
Description
Block Island legend of Captain Kidd burying treasure on the island — among New England's best-known Kidd traditions outside Narragansett Bay.
Historical Notes
Block Island's remote dunes and bluffs made it a recurring setting for Atlantic pirate cache lore. Compiled guides and local oral tradition credit Kidd with concealing loot on the island before sailing north. Metal-detector clubs still cite Block Island maps and Kidd charts in Washington County searches.
