Mineral County legend of a stolen Candelaria Mines payroll long ago hidden near Mina — classic desert camp payroll cache folklore along the Mount Diablo district.
Historical Notes
Candelaria was a notable silver-gold camp in western Nevada's Mineral County with active Mount Diablo mine operations. Regional lore holds that a payroll intended for mine workers was stolen and concealed near Mina before the thieves were killed or driven off. The story appears in Legends of America's compiled Nevada county treasure list alongside Tonopah and Goldfield entries.
