Caddo Mounds Spanish Trade Silver — Houston County

Lost Treasure TX • Houston County County
Description
Houston County legend of Spanish trade silver buried near the Caddo Mounds State Historic Site west of Lufkin — a prehistoric trade center on the Camino Real corridor.
Historical Notes
Caddo Mounds State Historic Site near Alto preserves a major Caddoan ceremonial center. Spanish and French traders crossed Houston County on routes linking Nacogdoches to the Brazos and Trinity drainages. East Texas treasure guides sometimes place Spanish trade silver near mound complexes where European goods exchanged hands long before Lufkin's rail era. The THC interprets the site archaeologically; bullion tales remain folklore. Coordinates mark the Caddo Mounds near Alto in Houston County northwest of Lufkin.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
