C. E. Sharps Buried Gold — White's Mill

Lost Treasure AL • Lauderdale County County
Description
Florence-area legend that businessman C. E. Sharps buried a large quantity of gold near White's Mill on the outskirts of Florence — never reclaimed after his death.
Historical Notes
White's Mill was a landmark gristmill community near Florence on the Tennessee River in Lauderdale County. Digital Alabama recounts that C. E. Sharps, a prosperous local figure, allegedly buried gold on or near the mill property rather than keep it in banks during uncertain times. Urban growth around Florence has absorbed much of the old mill country, but the Sharps cache remains a Lauderdale County treasure-hunting staple.
