Historical Notes
Legends of America reports that near Monument, between Colorado Springs and Denver in El Paso County, the Butch Cassidy Gang allegedly stashed $100,000 from their bank robberies. Ute Pass and Cascade on the slopes of Pikes Peak were also linked to the Bloody Espinosa gang of 1863, who reportedly buried loot near Cascade before being killed by a Fort Garland scout.
