Burnet County Spanish Silver Mine Legend — Burnet County

Lost Treasure TX • Burnet County County
Description
Burnet County legend of a Spanish silver pack train buried while fleeing Comanches — tied to a 1920s Austin American account of a mine near Burnet in the Highland Lakes Hill Country.
Historical Notes
Legends of America and Hill Country compilations cite an early 1920s Austin American story describing an ancient Spanish document about a mine near Burnet. A pack train of forty burro loads of silver was allegedly pursued by Comanches; drivers buried the silver near present-day Leander in Williamson County variants, while the mine itself was placed in the Burnet Hill Country. Related Williamson County entry documents the Leander burial variant. This pin marks the Burnet County mine-country folklore in the Highland Lakes region northwest of Austin. Coordinates mark the Burnet area in the central Hill Country, the county seat northwest of Marble Falls.
