Gold Mining Site TX • Llano County County
Description
Bull Head Creek (also Bullhead Creek) in northwestern Llano County, listed by APMEX among Central Texas streams with recreational placer gold. Tributary of the Llano River in the Scotts Crossing topographic area.
Historical Notes
APMEX and regional prospecting guides name Bull Head Creek alongside the Llano River, Honey Creek, Heath, Fredericksburg, and Walnut Creek as among the best Texas locations for placer gold. Bull Head Creek drains northwestern Llano County into the upper Llano River system west of the town of Llano. Work gravel bars and inside bends after high water; gold is fine-grained and widely dispersed. Most creek frontage is private ranch land in the Llano Uplift. Obtain landowner permission before prospecting. Coordinates approximate the creek in the Scotts Crossing quadrangle.
