Bull Creek Confederate Funds Legend — Austin

Lost Treasure TX • Travis County County
Description
Northwest Austin Bull Creek greenbelt — variant of Civil War–era treasury tales claiming Confederate funds were buried along the limestone creek west of Shoal Creek during the chaotic end of the war.
Historical Notes
Bull Creek flows through northwest Austin from the Hill Country escarpment into the Colorado River, paralleling Shoal Creek to the east. Both drainages attracted treasure hunters during Austin's 1890s gold fever. Some retellings of the Shoal Creek legend shift the burial to Confederate treasury funds rather than the 1836 Mexican payroll, and place sister caches on Bull Creek or along the road toward Bee Cave. The 1865 State Treasury robbery in downtown Austin fed similar stories on every nearby waterway. Bull Creek District Park and the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve protect much of the corridor — no digging permitted. Coordinates approximate Bull Creek at Loop 360.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
