Buffalo Gap Gold Cache — Taylor County

Lost Treasure TX • Taylor County County
Description
Buffalo Gap legend of a cache of gold buried in or near the old Taylor County seat south of Abilene — one of the best-known published treasure entries for the Abilene metro.
Historical Notes
Buffalo Gap was the original Taylor County seat before the Texas and Pacific Railway routed through Abilene in 1881. The Rocker Box Taylor County list cites a cache of gold buried in or near Buffalo Gap. Thomas Penfield's Guide to Treasure in Texas and D. Van Atchley's 1976 Lost Treasure magazine article "Buffalo Gap's Hidden Gold" repeat the tale. TreasureNet researchers note multiple search parties have asked Buffalo Gap city hall about the story. Coordinates mark downtown Buffalo Gap. Much of the surrounding land is private ranch property.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
