Taylor County folklore of California Forty-Niners returning east who buried gold at Buffalo Gap when ambushed by Indians on the Comanche frontier south of Abilene.
Historical Notes
TreasureNet and regional compilations describe Forty-Niners laden with California gold who buried their hoard at Buffalo Gap when attacked by Indians while traveling east. The treasure is said to remain unfound. Buffalo Gap sat on the western fringe of settlement in the 1850s–1870s, between Fort Phantom Hill and the Comanchería.
