Buck Prospect — Culberson County

Gold Mining Site TX • Culberson County County
Description
The Buck Prospect in Culberson County was a Trans-Pecos lead-zinc occurrence with silver and gold byproduct — one of the Quitman–Van Horn district prospects cited in Texas mining records.
Historical Notes
TSHA lists zinc production from the Bonanza and Alice Ray mines in Hudspeth County and notes the Buck Prospect in Culberson County among lead-zinc occurrences with small silver content. Gold appears as trace byproduct in the same Trans-Pecos metallogenic belt. Lead and zinc have not been mined commercially in Texas since 1952; the Buck Prospect represents historical exploration rather than active production. Coordinates approximate the Buck Prospect in northern Culberson County west of Van Horn.
