Brushy Creek Sam Bass Camp — Round Rock

Lost Treasure TX • Williamson County County
Description
Brushy Creek near Round Rock — Sam Bass reportedly camped and may have cached train-robbery loot along the creek before his July 1878 death in downtown Round Rock.
Historical Notes
The Sam Bass shootout occurred in Round Rock on July 19, 1878, when Texas Rangers and local lawmen surprised Bass planning a bank robbery. Bass was wounded and died two days later. Before the shootout, Bass and associates frequented camps along Brushy Creek north of Austin. Treasure lore places additional caches along the creek between Round Rock and McNeil beyond the famous Sam Bass Road hollow-tree map. Round Rock preserves Bass history with a Texas historical marker and the Sam Bass statue downtown. No loot authenticated. Coordinates approximate Brushy Creek at Round Rock.
