The first recorded claims were in 1876 when a group of miners including Stephen Downey claimed 160 acres at the mouth of Lincoln Creek. Brush Creek drains the area known as Gold Hill. But good gold has been found on the creeks that come from the area. In 1977 there were two diamonds found on one of these creeks, Cortez or Cortex creek. Nuggets have been recovered along these drainages with a metal detector. This area is worth prospecting. There are good camp grounds. The nearest services are in Saratoga Wyoming.
