Brown's Park Outlaw Loot

Lost Treasure CO • Moffat County County
Description
Remote valley on the Outlaw Trail where Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch hid rustled stock and allegedly cached robbery loot in the 1890s — much never recovered. Josie Morris lived on the Bassett Ranch nearby.
Historical Notes
Brown's Park (Brown's Hole) lies along the Utah–Colorado border south of Wyoming on the historic Outlaw Trail. In the 1890s Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch fled here to escape lawmen. The valley was ideal for hiding rustled cattle and horses; legend holds much outlaw loot was cached and never found. Butch's girlfriend Josie Morris lived on the Bassett Ranch where he sometimes worked as a hand. Little remains except riverside graves, Josie's cabin, and remnants of Doc Parson's cabin where Cassidy briefly lived.
