Description
Ottawa County legend of British soldiers burying about $250,000 in gold at Locust Point on Lake Erie during the War of 1812 — a Lake Erie shore tradition in northwest Ohio.
Historical Notes
Locust Point on the Ottawa County Lake Erie shore saw military traffic during the War of 1812 and Perry's lake campaign. Compiled guides credit retreating British troops with concealing roughly two hundred fifty thousand dollars in gold near the point. The hoard joins other War of 1812 payroll legends along Ohio's Lake Erie islands and mainland bluffs.
