Bridge City Sabine Lake Smuggler Cache — Orange County

Lost Treasure TX • Orange County County
Description
Bridge City legend of a Lafitte-era smuggler cache on the shores of Sabine Lake where the coastal prairie meets the Golden Triangle refinery corridor.
Historical Notes
Bridge City grew where the Cow Bayou swing bridge linked Orange County to Jefferson County across Sabine Lake. The lake and its bayous were classic smuggler waters between Galveston Island privateers and Louisiana markets. By 1900 local tradition held that every shellbank along Sabine Lake had a buried-gold story. Bridge City's position between Orange and Port Arthur placed it on the same contraband routes cited in Jefferson County Lafitte legends. Coordinates mark Bridge City on Sabine Lake in Orange County between Beaumont and Orange.
