Brazos Santiago Pass Wreck Salvage Ground

Lost Treasure TX • Cameron County County
Description
Brazos Santiago Pass shipwreck salvage corridor where appointed wreck master John Singer profited from Gulf strandings near the island's southern inlet — a documented source of his growing Padre Island wealth.
Historical Notes
Singer was appointed wreck master of Padre Island, entitling him to salvage materials and goods from vessels lost on the island and near Brazos Santiago Pass. The pass was a strategic Civil War inlet; Singer's Union sympathies and proximity to the channel contributed to the family's 1861 expulsion. Salvage income, sewing-machine investments, and beach finds combined into the hoard later buried in Money Hill — coordinates mark the pass mouth south of Kenedy County.
