Braidwood Gangster $400,000 Cache

Lost Treasure IL • Will County County
Description
Will County legend of $400,000 in gangster money buried a few miles south of Braidwood — a coal-town treasure tale in the Chicago exurbs.
Historical Notes
Will County compilations place four hundred thousand dollars in outlaw cash south of Braidwood. Braidwood boomed during the 1860s coal rush southwest of Chicago; gangster-era lore later layered onto the prairie landscape. The cache belongs to the same Prohibition-and-Depression burial tradition as Metro East gangster stories.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
