Boot Map Bighorn Treasure Trail

Lost Treasure WY • Johnson County County
Description
Bighorn Mountains legend that a boot-shaped carving on a granite boulder — the "Boot Map" — marks arrows leading to the Lost Cabin Gold Mine sought by prospectors for more than 160 years.
Historical Notes
Historian Mary H. Hendry described arrows cut into the boulder surface that "lead into and out of the carving," firing prospector imagination. The Boot Map is tied to Albert Hulburt's 1863 lost strike and to Rattlesnake Jones spirit-guided versions recorded in Natrona County histories. Wyoming highway tourist maps once noted the "Territory of the mysterious Lost Cabin Mine" between Casper and Buffalo near Kaycee.
