Bolivar Point Lafitte Treasure

Lost Treasure TX • Galveston County County
Description
Bolivar Peninsula folklore that Jean Lafitte buried roughly $130,000 in gold near Bolivar Point — the narrow entrance to Galveston Bay opposite Galveston Island.
Historical Notes
Bolivar Point guards the east side of the Galveston Bay entrance where the Bolivar Ferry crosses today. Lafitte's ships used these channels to move contraband between the open Gulf and his Campeche base on Galveston Island. The Rocker Box Galveston County compilation cites guidebook tradition of $130,000 in Lafitte treasure buried near Bolivar Point. Regional hunters associate the point's dunes, salt marshes, and oyster reefs with quick-burial sites for pirate loot. Fort Travis (1898–1943) later occupied part of the point, complicating searches. No documented recovery. Coordinates mark Bolivar Point at the peninsula tip near the ferry landing.
