Bolivar Peninsula Coin Legend — Crystal Beach

Lost Treasure TX • Galveston County County
Description
Bolivar Peninsula tradition of Spanish and pirate coins washing ashore along Crystal Beach and Rollover Pass — local lore collected in regional treasure guides and metal-detecting communities.
Historical Notes
Bolivar Peninsula separates Galveston Bay from the Gulf of Mexico. Storms routinely cut new passes and expose old shell layers where detectorists report colonial-era coins and trade goods. Russell Autrey's Legend of Bolivar Coins documents peninsula beach finds and the oral history behind them. Some coins likely come from documented shipwrecks; others fuel Lafitte and Spanish treasure fleet legends. Rollover Pass (closed 2019) and Crystal Beach were prime detecting areas. Coordinates mark Crystal Beach on the Gulf side of the peninsula.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
