Bluffton School — Llano County

Historic School TX • Llano County County
Description
School at Bluffton on the Colorado River; among the earliest Llano County settlements alongside Tow, with a saltworks and stage-stop economy.
Historical Notes
Settlers began at Bluffton and Tow on the Colorado River in 1852. Bluffton grew to a blacksmith shop, cotton gin, hotel, and stage stop before the 1883 fire; the town relocated and again when Lake Buchanan was impounded. A saltworks between Bluffton and Tow operated until destroyed in 1871; schools and churches served the river communities that predated the Llano county seat.
