Historical Notes
The Marqués de San Miguel de Aguayo named the Blanco River in 1721. Blanco State Park along the river south of Johnson City became a popular recreation stop; cotton acreage in Blanco County climbed to more than 16,000 acres by 1910 before ranching and tourism dominated the economy. Blanco River bottomland folklore places merchant and gin specie along the southern Hill Country corridor between Johnson City and the Guadalupe River drainage.
