Blackbeard Hampton Granite Vault Treasure

Lost Treasure CT • Windham County County
Description
Hampton legend of Blackbeard's treasure buried in a granite-lined vault on the Jewett homestead in Howard's Valley — Connecticut's richest inland pirate pit tradition.
Historical Notes
Legendary Connecticut recounts Barney Reynolds excavating an eight-foot granite-walled pit on Charles Cady's Hampton farm in 1938. A map purportedly from Blackbeard descendant Reynolds marked horse-head, dog-head, and fish-eye stones pointing to the vault. Theorists say Teach lightened his load along the Nipmuck Trail more than thirty miles from Long Island Sound.
