Blackbeard First Landing State Park Treasure

Lost Treasure VA • Virginia Beach County
Description
Virginia Beach legend that Edward Teach buried loot in the dunes of First Landing State Park after seizing a merchantman near the Lynnhaven River — then fled north before Lt. Maynard's fatal battle.
Historical Notes
Virginia Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau recounts Blackbeard taking a prize in the Chesapeake near Lynnhaven, burying chests in sand dunes when naval cannon fire appeared, and intending to return after reaching North Carolina. Maynard beheaded Teach at Ocracoke in November 1718 before any recovery. Virginia Places notes only two grams of gold dust were found on the wrecked Queen Anne's Revenge — keeping Chesapeake beach hunts alive. First Landing State Park at Cape Henry anchors the tourism legend of a headless specter guarding unrecovered plunder.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
