Blackbeard Bath Town Pirate Gold

Lost Treasure NC • Beaufort County County
Description
Bath legend of Blackbeard's loot hidden near his 1718 home beside Governor Charles Eden — where the pirate received royal pardon then resumed plunder along the Pamlico River.
Historical Notes
After accepting the king's pardon in 1718, Blackbeard settled in Bath and allegedly married a local girl while maintaining ties to Governor Eden. Rumors claimed Eden received hogsheads of sugar for condemning French prizes. Legends of America notes Blackbeard burned scuttled ships upriver to hide evidence and may have cached bullion on plantations lining Pamlico tributaries before Maynard's expedition. Historic Bath and the NC Historic Sites trail link the town to both authenticated piracy and enduring buried-treasure folklore.
