Black Caesar Hoard — Pine Island

Lost Treasure FL • Lee County County
Description
Southwest Florida legend that pirate Henri "Black Caesar" buried two to six million dollars in plunder on Pine Island after fleeing British patrols from the Caribbean into the Gulf of Mexico.
Historical Notes
Henri Caesar, a Haitian rebel turned pirate, raided Spanish Main shipping before pushing north into the Gulf around 1812. Port Sanibel Marina tradition places his cache on Pine Island in Lee County. Caesar reportedly allied briefly with José Gaspar ("Gasparilla") before their camps clashed over captive women. Caesar abandoned treasure when driven from Sanibel toward Florida's east coast. Pine Island Sound and mangrove keys remain a focal point for Gulf Coast pirate-hoard legends.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
