Bitter Creek Where Two Trails Meet Stage Gold — Yellowstone County

Lost Treasure MT • Yellowstone County County
Description
October 1888 legend of a lonely Montana road near the Wyoming border — where four masked bandits seized an $8,500 Wells Fargo iron box and a wounded outlaw died before finishing directions to "where two trails come together."
Historical Notes
Jean Moore's Treasure State Treasure Tales records an October 1888 stagecoach holdup on a lonely road near the Wyoming border; four bandits took roughly $8,500 in gold dust from a heavy iron box. A wounded ex-member of the gang later staggered into a roadside station saying loot was buried near Bitter Creek "where two trails come together and meet in front of…" but died before completing the landmark. TreasureNet researchers link the tale to the broader Billings $83,000 road-agent tradition. Coordinates approximate Bitter Creek country on the Montana–Wyoming line south of Billings. Legend only.
