Billings Buffalo Fort Custer Stage Outlaw Caches — Rosebud County

Lost Treasure MT • Rosebud County County
Description
Fort Custer country legend of outlaw caches along the Billings–Buffalo, Wyoming stage road — a route that increased bandit opportunities after the Miles City–Bozeman line prospered in the late 1870s.
Historical Notes
TreasureNet's Fallon County Times excerpts note that when the Billings–Fort Benton and Billings–Buffalo (via Fort Custer) stage routes opened, road-agent numbers and holdup opportunities grew across eastern Montana. Fort Custer guarded the Little Bighorn valley after 1877; treasure lore imagines strongboxes cached in coulees between the Yellowstone and Powder River breaks southeast of Miles City. Coordinates approximate Fort Custer historic country near Crow Agency. Respect tribal and private lands — legend only.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
