Big Shell Beach — Gulf Treasure Strand

Lost Treasure TX • Kleberg County County
Description
Remote north Padre Island beach within the National Seashore where storms expose shell hash and occasional Spanish coins and wreck debris from the island's four-century shipwreck history.
Historical Notes
Big Shell Beach is among the least-developed stretches of Padre Island National Seashore, reachable only by high-clearance beach driving from Park Road 100. THC and NPS note that bits of the 1554 wrecks and other strandings still emerge from dunes and surf across the seashore — protected archaeological material under Texas and federal law. Coordinates approximate the Big Shell district north of the 1554 wreck concentration — a northern treasure-beach endpoint on the 113-mile island.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
