Historical Notes
Jackson County guides credit river pirates with concealed hoards near Bellevue on the Mississippi. Bellevue was a steamboat landing and lumber town where river commerce attracted bandits and counterfeiters in the nineteenth century. Companion legends name a villain called Brown and generic bandit caches in the same Bellevue country.
