Beaumont Missouri Pacific Railroad Strongbox — Jefferson County

Lost Treasure TX • Jefferson County County
Description
Beaumont legend of an unrecovered Missouri Pacific Railroad paymaster strongbox from the era when Beaumont became the Jefferson County rail hub of the Golden Triangle.
Historical Notes
Beaumont was founded in 1835 and grew into Jefferson County's commercial center at the Neches–Sabine confluence. The Missouri Pacific and Southern Pacific lines made Beaumont a freight junction between Houston, Lake Charles, and Gulf ports. Railroad folklore across Southeast Texas places buried payroll chests along depots when holdups or embezzlement threatened specie shipments. The Jefferson Theatre and downtown rail corridor preserve Beaumont's Gilded Age narrative. Coordinates mark downtown Beaumont at the historic Missouri Pacific corridor.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
