Beale Buried Specie — Buford's Tavern Corridor

Lost Treasure VA • Bedford County County
Description
Bedford County legend of Thomas J. Beale burying tons of Colorado gold and silver near Buford's Tavern in Montvale — location locked in unsolved Beale ciphers since the 1820s.
Historical Notes
The 1885 pamphlet describes Beale entrusting a locked box to tavern keeper Robert Morriss at Buford's (Montvale). Inside were three ciphertexts; only the contents cipher is solved, listing roughly 3,000 pounds of gold and 5,000 of silver. Northern Virginia Magazine and WFXR document decades of dynamite, backhoes, and trespassers near Peaks of Otter and Goode's Mountain. Virginia Living debates hope versus hoax. Complements the seeded Beale Ciphers entry with the Montvale tavern deposit narrative.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
