Description
Downtown Austin school named for Joseph Baker; 1887 building served central-city students near the Capitol.
Historical Notes
One of Austin's nineteenth-century ward schools. The Baker name survives in local education history though the original structure has been superseded by modern facilities. Represents the 1880s expansion of Austin public education after the 1871 school system reorganization.
