Baby Head Mountain Indian Raid Pioneer Cache — Llano County

Lost Treasure TX • Llano County County
Description
Baby Head legend of pioneer specie buried after an Indian raid on the Llano County frontier — near the mountain and cemetery that preserve one of the Hill Country's grimmest place names.
Historical Notes
Baby Head is a Llano County community and cemetery near Baby Head Mountain northwest of the Castell–Llano corridor. Local tradition holds the name commemorates a child victim of a nineteenth-century Indian attack, though details vary in oral history. Indian-raid folklore often places settler strongboxes hurriedly buried when Comanche and Kiowa bands struck remote ranch households on the Llano Uplift frontier. The community lies on the route between Valley Spring and the upper Llano River country. Coordinates mark Baby Head in northwestern Llano County near the Cherokee topo sheet. Respect cemetery and private property.
