Astoria Coxcomb Hill Coffee Can Gold

Lost Treasure OR • Clatsop County County
Description
Astoria legend of an elderly recluse on Coxcomb Hill confessing on his deathbed that $10,000 in a coffee can was hidden in a tree stump near his cabin before the Astoria Column was built in 1925.
Historical Notes
Before the 125-foot Astoria Column monument, a cabin stood along Coxcomb Hill Road overlooking the Columbia River. The dying resident said he buried ten thousand dollars in a coffee can in a stump near the hill's edge; 1920s searches failed to find it. The tale is one of Clatsop County's most localized urban-adjacent cache stories.
