Description
Artesia legend of a petroleum-boom payroll cache from the 1920s–1930s Eddy County oil rush — between Roswell and the Hobbs fields on the Pecos Valley rail line.
Historical Notes
Artesia developed as an oil and railroad town in Eddy County between Roswell and Hobbs. The 1928 Hobbs field discovery and subsequent Permian Basin boom moved wildcat payrolls and lease bonuses in cash through southeastern New Mexico.
