Description
Aroostook County legend of Anse Hanley burying $60,000 close to his cabin next to the Allagash River — a northern Maine recluse hoard never reported recovered.
Historical Notes
The Allagash River wilderness of Aroostook County attracted timbermen and recluses in the nineteenth century. Compiled Maine guides name Anse Hanley as a cabin dweller who concealed roughly sixty thousand dollars along the river. No confirmed recovery appears in Aroostook County lists despite searches near his homestead site.
