Anahuac Lafitte Treasure Ship

Lost Treasure TX • Chambers County County
Description
Trinity Bay legend of a Jean Lafitte treasure ship lying near Anahuac — the historic Chambers County seat on the east shore of Galveston Bay.
Historical Notes
Anahuac was the site of the 1832 and 1835 Anahuac Disturbances that helped spark the Texas Revolution. Before Anglo settlement, the bay was Karankawa and smuggler country; Lafitte associates patrolled the same waters. The Rocker Box Chambers County list describes a Lafitte treasure ship near Anahuac. Shallow Trinity Bay has claimed countless vessels; occasional timber exposures fuel wreck-and-plunder searches. Fort Anahuac Park and the Travis Bayou waterfront are public access points. Coordinates mark Anahuac on Trinity Bay northeast of Houston.
