Alice Ray Mine — Hudspeth County

Gold Mining Site TX • Hudspeth County County
Description
The Alice Ray Mine in the Quitman Mountains paired with the Bonanza Mine as Hudspeth County's main lead-zinc producer with silver and trace gold byproduct.
Historical Notes
TSHA pairs the Alice Ray Mine with the Bonanza Mine as the sources of essentially all Texas zinc production and matching lead output. Ores carried silver with gold as minor byproduct. The Quitman Mountains southwest of Sierra Blanca also host fluorspar deposits mined from Eagle Mountain starting in 1943 — another El Paso–linked mineral industry in Hudspeth County. No mining has been reported since lead and zinc ceased in 1952. Remote desert range — historical site only. Coordinates approximate the Alice Ray Mine in the Quitman Mountains.
