Historical Notes
Alf Bolin led a Confederate-leaning guerrilla band that robbed travelers and Union sympathizers along the White River corridor in the 1860s. Folklore says he buried plunder before Union forces killed him in a trap near Forsyth, Missouri. Murder Rocks, a bluff on the White River, and Fox Creek in Marion County are recurring search areas. No documented cache has been tied to Bolin in period records, but Ozark oral tradition keeps the legend active. Treasure writers often merge Bolin's story with other border-outlaw caches from the same river hills.
