Al Capone Michigan City Whiskey Cave

Lost Treasure IN • LaPorte County County
Description
Michigan City legend of Al Capone henchmen sealing 2,000 cases of whiskey worth about $300,000 in a Lake Michigan shore cave with explosives before being gunned down.
Historical Notes
Prohibition-era Chicago gangsters used the Indiana Dunes and lakefront for smuggling and storage. Indiana Traveler recounts Capone associates hiding two thousand whiskey cases in a blasted-shut cave near Michigan City. The henchmen died before revealing the entrance, keeping the lakefront cache in LaPorte County treasure lore.
